George Lester Sexton



George Lester Sexton passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at his home. He was born June 18, 1937, in Portsmouth, Ohio. George is survived by his wife, Constance Little Sexton; children, Randi (Don) Oberhauser, George D. Sexton, and Terry A. Sexton. He was a wonderful husband, a good father, grandfather, and a good neighbor to his fellow man.
George joined the USMC in 1954 at age 17 and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1974. He was deployed during the Cuban Missile Crisis, spent several years in Okinawa, served as a recruiter during the Vietnam War and did two tours in Vietnam. He was also assigned to Joint Command in Washington DC. Post retirement he worked as a Sergeant at the Grafton, Ohio Police Department and for the VA. He transferred to GSA as a Security Specialist and retired in 1997. George was a charter member of the Lt. Alexander Bonnyman Detachment #924 of the Marine Corps League. He served as Commandant in 2000 and was Chaplain for many years. George was also a Life Member of VFW Post 10025, Sevier County and of the DAV, Sevier County.
A Celebration of George's Life was held at Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. John Sevier Highway, in Knoxville, on Wednesday October 13, 2021..
