This off road 5K adventure takes you across scenic trails and fields\, obstacles\, mud\, and water. It is open to individuals and teams. Be prepared for some real clean fun! Showers are  available for those who will need to be cleansed afterwards…Marines will make sure you successfully complete their course! \nEvery participant will receive a Commemorative 2024 Mud Run T-shirt during Packet Pick-up if selected during the registration process. \nOoh-rah! \n  \nCourse Description\n\nThis course will be CHALLENGING. DESCRIPTION:VETERANS APPRECIATION DAY – Vintage Baseball!! \nHosted by the Veterans Heritage Site Foundation \nIn partnership with the Veterans Heritage Site Foundation\, we are taking the time to show our special thanks to all veterans on this day! Throughout the sevent inning stretch\, Veterans will be able to participate in various “games”\, activities\, and receive special recognition. All veterans will receive a complimentary tour of the Historic Ramsey House\, which will be open from 10:00-4:00. \nSchedule:\n1:00pm – Cumberland Club of Nashville vs Knoxville \n  \nThis is a FREE event for the entire family! As always\, concessions will be available\, and all proceeds will go directly to the ongoing preservation of Historic Ramsey House. Make sure to bring your own chair and a shady umbrella or tent. \nDuring the game: \n–Veterans will be able to tour the Ramsey House free all day. \n-Veteran Organizations will be able to set up tables to share their information.  \n-Throughout the day there will be special presentations and possible games to recognize various groups and veterans\, including presentation of a Quilt of Valor \n-Vietnam Veterans will be given their Welcome Home 50th Year Commemorative Pin after the first game.  \n-We are also looking for enough veterans to play a couple of innings of Vintage Baseball between games. DESCRIPTION:Veterans Heritage Site Foundation \nHONORING OUR GSMNP VETERANS \nVeterans Heritage Site Foundation will host their “Honor Our Great Smoky Mountain Veterans” Day at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center in Townsend on June 15\, 2024 stating at 11 AM. VHSF will be honoring the veterans that were buried in the Park.  There are over 245 veterans buried in over 63 sites within the Park. \nWe will be recognizing specifically the World War II veterans and their descendants.  There are over 50 World War II veterans buried in the park. There are 4 WWII veterans who left the cove and were lost in the war.  Also Sonja DuBois\, a Hidden Survivor of the Holocaust will be a speaker.  Chris Magra\, Director of  the UT Center for  Tennesseans in War  will present history of how the  WWII effected the area. \nWe also are planning to honor WWII veterans who are in attendance.  Bernard Myers will be describing the day that his father heard about Pearl Harbor and what he did that day in Cades Cove since his family still lived the park. Casey Wheeless\, WVLT Anchor\, will be the MC. \nOther speakers are being lined up to help tell the story of these veterans in the Park and to recognize those present.  VHSF\, the Appalachian DAR District\, and other organizations will be presenting information and helping with the program.  Cavett Station DAR Chapter will be setting up an honor table for families to bring pictures of their loved ones who have passed\, but served during World War II. \nMore specifics for the program will be announced later such as Quilt of Valor presentations and 50th Year Commemorative Pin presentation to Vietnam Veterans.  If you would like more information or like to participate please contact: \nMarilyn Childress\, VHSF President\, 678-920-1989. \nmarilyn.childress@veteransheritagesite.org

SUMMARY:Young Marines / Detachment Memorial Day Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:The Young Marines of Greater Knoxville\, in conjunction with Marine Corps League Detachment #924 will show honors to this hero on May 29th\, 2023 at the Virtue Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. The ceremony last about an hour.  Detachment members and family members are encouraged to attend. \nAccredited to North Carolina\, Stout was born February 24\, 1950\, in Knoxville\, TN\, and entered service at Raleigh\, NC\, when he was only 17. He went through paratrooper school and got his wings before the Army discovered his true age and discharged him. By then\, he was 18 and simply re-enlisted. Stout deployed for his first tour of Vietnam in 1968 and returned home safely in 1969\, but volunteered for a second tour in order to guide younger soldiers. \nJust a few weeks into his second tour\, on March 12\, 1970\, Stout gave his life for his fellow soldiers. It was three weeks after his 20th birthday. Stout is the only army air defense artilleryman in history to receive the Medal of Honor. \nKnoxville’s Virtue Cemetery\, where Stout is buried\, contains a beautiful War Memorial walkway laid out in a circled star pattern with two flagpoles at the center. Between the rays of the star are five large black carved stones with inscriptions and a list of all Medal of Honor recipients.
