The Alexander Bonnyman Detachment will conduct the Marine Rose Program on Veterans Day, November 11, 2023. Lt Bonnyman Detachment Members will distribute artificial com-memorative roses at selected sites throughout the area and accept donations to support our Marine Corps League Detachment's projects.
Get involved with this and other vital fundraisers for this year’s activities, programs and to support other USMC and veteran organizations. The locations for this event are:
Food City on Chapman Highway (7608 Mountain Grove Dr)
Lowe's on Clinton Hwy
Ingle's and Kroger's in Farragut
There will be 0900 to Noon and Noon to 1500 shifts at each location. Wear something representing the Marine Corps League such as your MCL cover or a Marine hat plus your red polo shirt, if you have one.

Annual Veterans Day Parade
The 96th Veteran’s Day Parade will be held on Thursday, November 11. We will ride our float pulled by Rick Freetag's fantastic USMC truck. All detachment members and partners are welcome to ride the float.
Park at or near Knoxville Auditorium & Coliseum Parking Garage B, not in the police lot. MAP Here. Marines be at the float NLT 09:00 to assist with the final float setup and load onto the float. No need for MCL cover; wear any USMC hat. If you have one, wear your red satin jacket.

Bonnyman Detachment member, Marine Clayton Narvason, WWII survivor, Iwo Jima survivor, was recently interiewed by local channel WATE-TV (ABC, channel 6). The segment was aired on 21 April at 6:00 p.m. Click Here to view it.
Service for Clayton Narveson was held at 6 pm Monday, January 30 at Rio Revolution Church, Maryville.
MCL members please arrive at Rio Revolution Church by 5:30. We will organize ourselves and review our contribution to the service. Near the end of the service, we will file up to the table holding Clayton's ashes, render a hand salute, then return to our seats. The Honor Guard will file outside, fire a rifle volley followed by Taps. A point to consider: the Marine Corps League minimum uniform is the red cover. To salute inside the church, whether you are wearing a red blazer, a suit or street clothes, wear your cover as you approach the altar.

HONORAIR KNOXVILLE takes WWII, Korean and Vietnam veterans from East Tennessee to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials built to honor their sacrifice - at no charge to the veteran.
No amount of gratitude could ever repay the debt for the gift of democracy veterans gave the world. However, HonorAir Knoxville is dedicated to honoring East Tennessee World War II, Korean War and Vietnam veterans and the sacrifices they made to ensure our freedoms.
Flight 31, the Flight to Honor Women Veterans, is scheduled to leave Knoxville on October 12, 2022 with 130+ East Tennessee female veterans to visit the memorials built to honor their service and sacrifice. Lt. Alexander Bonnyman Detachment members Kathy Winters, Pearl Rich , Susie Schmidt, and Lindsay Long will be on Flight 31.
Flight 31 will return to the Knoxville Airport at 7:40pm. All are encouraged to greet the honorees as they deplane at the arrivals area at Knoxville Airport. Bring banners, signs, wear patriotic clothing to line the ramp. Arrive early (6-ish) to the Welcome Home Celebration to get a spot. Parking is free - write "Honor Air" on your parking ticket stub and present it to the parking lot attendant when you exit. Let's welcome Kathy, Pearl, Susie and Lindsay on their return from D.C.

Ladies and Gentlemen
As always, I hope all are doing well. To those who are ill, our prayers and hopes are for a speedy recovery.
I'm pleased to say that MCL Knoxville 924 is on the way to recovery due to the hard work of so many members at the MCL 924 first annual Car Show. The show was held at the Parkway Drive-In Theater on HWY 321 in Maryville. A special thank you goes out to Larry and Cathy Winters, Jeff Tegzes, Bonnyman Young Marines, Tim Eichhorn, Nappy and Doreen Napierkowski, Tim and Jean Shea, Chaplain Ron Naugle, Bob Brown, Larry George, Head Cook Bob Willis, Tunnel Rat, Jarrod Cooper, Ed Gomez, Wayne and Susan Jones, Rick Freetage, Elizabeth Carr, Pearl Rich, Susie Schmidt and Doug Freeman, Larry #5 and his wife, Paymaster Sam Ruble, Judge Advocate Lee Rhinemiller, and all the other detachment members, family, and volunteers who worked so hard to make the event the success it was. Any member who comes to the meeting next Tuesday, May 25, can walk away with $70 if your name is selected. The winning name is selected from the entire roster, not just those who come to the meeting. You must be present to win.
I have 22 gross of artificial roses that need to be put together by Memorial Day. We need help ASAP. The roses will be distributed at 5 store locations. I'm asking if any member or family can do just one gross (144) each to help us reach our goal. The Detachment has 30 gross ready to go so, please lend a hand and help assemble the other 22. If you want to volunteer call Nappy (The Polish Emperor) our Senior Vice and chairman of the Rose Program at toll-free # 908-910-4193
I mentioned the Rose program, we need more members to help at those 5 stores you need not stand, just hand out roses.

The Jack McGivney Memorial Pistol Match
is a Bonnyman Detachment proud tradition and one of the highlights of the MCL annual events. For many years, it has brought us together for fun, great chow, friendly competition, fond memories, and camaraderie.

On April17, we had a good day for shooting with cloudy skies (no shadows) and 60-degree temps. The threat of rain lingered in the morning, but the Marines were undaunted.
We assembled at the Windrock Shooting and Training Range in Oliver Springs. Registration commenced at 0900 After registration and our important safety brief, the 30 shooters were ready to go.
We had 8 out of state shooters from OK, OH, and GA, 11 Detachment Marines and another 11 non detachment shooters. The shooters warmed up with 5 practice rounds. The course of fire was 7,10,15 yards and the last stage, which separates the pretenders from contenders, the challenging 25-yard string.
When the smoke cleared, we had a new Top Gun champion of the Jack McGivney Memorial Pistol Match. Retired Marine Sgt. Major Rick Arndt of Geneva Ohio fired an outstanding 390-13X.
Marine David Prince fired an impressive 380-14X, again taking the detachment centerfire honors. Gary Miller, Keith Lyman, and Tim Eichhorn won the expert, sharpshooter, and marksman medals, respectively.
Dale Holmes of Tulsa Oklahoma copped the Civilian centerfire class title with an awesome 388-21X, placing second overall.
Jerome Hunter of Alpharetta Georgia, Mark Shafer of Geneva Ohio, and Darin Gilbert of Knoxville won expert, sharpshooter and marksman medals respectively.
In the rimfire match Rick Arndt fired an outstanding 391-14X to garner the .22 caliber championship. Mark Shafer, Gary Miller, and Tim Shea took the expert, sharpshooter, marksman medals, respectively.
In what has become a crowded competitive field, Keith Lyman won the Senior Shooter title.
Thanks to Cheryl and Doug Ryerkerk and Cori Holmes who smoothly handled the registration and scoring. A special thanks to Dale Holmes for donating primers, ammo, and a gun bag for the successful silent auction. And of course, we also thank Eric Matson for hosting and range preparation for the event at his fine shooting facility.

On December 14, at 12:00 pm, Wreaths Across America will be at the Knoxville National Cemetery on Tyson Street, the East Tennessee State Veteran's Cemetery on Lyons View, and the East Tennessee State Veteran's Cemetery on John Sevier Highway to Remember and Honor our Veterans through the laying of Remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country's fallen heroes and the act of saying the name of each and every veteran aloud.
The goal this year is to place a wreath on each headstone in the three Veteran Cemeteries in Knox County.

Volunteers are needed to help the Young Marines lay wreaths. Trucks arrive at John Sevier cemetery at 09:00 on Dec 14, 2019. Volunteers are asked to arrive by 08:30. Ceremony starts at 12:00.
